Anya Anna MIGDAL – Art historian Paris, France

“Carving is stopping energy to contemplate it, capturing vitality to tame it and feed on it,” says the philosopher.

The gaze stops in front of the shapes that Stefan Ghitan presents to us, attracts our curiosity. The simple elements, but always elaborated with incredible application, first make us think of the ordinary and then push the clear perception to explore the paths of a new imagination. It is through these pure forms modelled with precision that we discover the spirit of matter and its own measure, according to Brancusi. Thought is thus united with the material itself in the act of the sculptor encouraging the viewer to touch, to caress the accomplished works of art. In search of the essence of things, Stefan Ghitan renounces the figurative transposition of reality, in order to awaken the consciousness of this intrinsic natural energy. Deeply sensitive to his materials, this heir to organic abstraction creates forms that carry strength and vitality within them.”

“Very close to the essence of Brancusi, Stefan GHITAN knows how to add different structural elements to the proposed material. Thus, the stone acquires metallic, chrome-plated elements, and the wood “twins” with hemp, here in the form of a rope. The general impression is of a design that falls mainly towards pure art.”

“The sculptor Stefan Ghițan is an artist with strong essences. Brancusi’s sign drags him like a ghost, in the best sense of the word. Stefan Ghițan is a fan of existentialist and metaphorical sculpture. It has had exhibitions in Germany and the rise  will certainly be fast and excellent.”

Anca CHEAITO – Revista Orient Romanesc

“Sculpture is an integral part of the physical space in which we evolve and has always accompanied the rhythm of History. From Antiquity to the present day, sculptures have carried within them the cultural, spiritual and artistic imprints of humanity.

Let’s dive into the secret language and symbolism of the works of the sculptor Ștefan GHIȚAN.

Symbolism is an ancient universal catalytic language that reveals complicated perceptions and beliefs, sharing information and arousing strong emotions that transcend the barriers of language, history, nationality, culture and religion.

The vase, the amphora – a feminine symbol, an object with magical symbolism, serves as a metaphor for human life. With its characteristic shape, it offers a timeless elegance that continues to fascinate art and history lovers. The circle is a symbol of perfection and eternity, which can suggest the sky, the sun and God. Unlike the circle, a symbol of the sacred, of spirituality, the square signifies stability, permanence, the physical, material, earthly world, the manifestation of God in Creation, the right sides and angles of the square suggest order, rigorousness. The square establishes a coordinate system, a symbol of earthly matter, the body and reality. The column is the elementary unit whose duplication makes possible the composition of the Whole. The column is life. It constitutes a particular form of the tree of life, a link between Earth and Heaven. The column is an indication of progress in the thinking of a civilization.

Placed between sensory materiality and spirituality, the works of the sculptor Ștefan GHIȚAN extend their aesthetic effect loaded with symbolism on the viewers.

His art that takes themes from spheres that are not of this world can become an impressive celebration of timeless beauty. Man and work are paired in an absorption that time fulfills better than the present moment, the sublime moment of eternity, the memory of form, of the fulfillment of the concrete, each stone becomes a vibrating instrument in a grandiose symphony.

Like Brancusi, who became the cornerstone of modern art, Stefan Ghitan’s works are open universes, harmonious flights in search of perfection.”

Ștefan Ghițan is that contemporary sculptor whose inspiration comes from the wisdom of great thinkers and from observing the world around him. He is part of a line of artists who perceive creation as a means of transcending reality, a way of making the invisible and the tangible elusive visible.

The influence of Constantin Brâncusi, a pioneer of modern sculpture, is felt not only in Ghițan’s philosophical approach, but also in his way of treating the material. The material, for him, is not a simple support but a real component of the work, capable of communicating emotions and ideas. Whether stone, wood or bronze, each material is chosen based on its ability to evoke particular feelings and enrich the dialogue between the work and the viewer.

Ghițan stands out for his ability to handle a variety of materials, from the most traditional ones such as natural stone, which combines elegance and durability, to more modern materials such as plastic or resin.

This diversity in the choice of materials reflects an open-mindedness and a desire to constantly renew one’s artistic vocabulary. Its practice also demonstrates respect for tradition while being resolutely innovation-oriented. His sculptures, although created from concrete materials, are imbued with a certain evanescence.

They do not represent only forms or objects, but seek to capture ideas, dreams and states of mind, thus reflecting the Freudian thought according to which man needs dreams to face reality. The artist’s works are not limited to simple aesthetic contemplation. They are an invitation to reflection, a challenge to our perceptions of reality.

What makes Ghițan’s work particularly powerful is his ability to transform the inert into the living, through a technical mastery that gives the most resistant materials a surprising plasticity. He manages to create a delicate balance between form and idea, between the materiality of the work and the depth of its message. His sculptures, although anchored in the tangible, are also gateways to the immaterial, explorations of the human soul and its mysteries.

Ștefan Ghițan is an artist who, through his philosophical approach and his technical skill, manages to create deeply significant works. His sculptures are invitations to see beyond appearances, to explore the many facets of human existence through the prism of matter. Ghițan thus redefines contemporary sculpture, giving it an existential and metaphorical dimension that resonates with the spirit of our time.
